Carpe Diem mi Demiyem mi?

About a month or maybe a few weeks ago I realized something. I don't like the term/philosophy "Carpe Diem". What it means may be so true and there is no way I can come up with a counter argument. However, don't YOU feel like it puts pressure on YOU every time you hear it?
"Seize the day!" YOU don't have to tell me to seize the day because I am already doing it. We probably all are! Especially when YOU or someone else has opened a can of worms for YOU, you just can't seize/enjoy the day because dealing with a problem makes it even harder to concentrate on the beauties of life. So... on top of that, hearing "carpe freakin' diem" drives YOU insane. This concept of unnecessary inquietude and anxiety has the role of showing YOU less of what YOU already have, less of what YOU already are doing. Therefore, the feeling of unfortunateness (I don't know if such vocab. exists - I might've made it up but YOU know where I am getting at) invades your personal life by covering your achievements and making YOU believe that YOU should be doing more. Yes, you might need to aim for more but it should not be this stressful.
Here's an example...  Look at us!

My dearest friends Seden & Rüya
WE  have LAUGHED our BUTTS OFF
We have shared

We have had lunches, dinners & breakfasts together
We have done silly things
We have shared

We have cared for one another
We have posed together many times
We have shared

No comment on this one! :D But,
we have shared

We have cried (well, they have never seen me cry yet but still ;)
We have talked about LOVE
We have discussed about "stuff"! YOU know what I am talking about
and there were times that we have had fights but again,
We have shared

Now each of us lives in different continents, different cities. Careful, the following sentence may sound a bit tacky! However, we still have each other even though we are far away from each other. So here is a question.... Could have we done more to enjoy our moments together?
OF COURSE YES! There were countless things that we could have done more. But the real question is, " Was it possible to do those countless things?"
OF COURSE NOT! A-ha! YOU have just realized it, haven't YOU? We have done ourbest to experience the most of what we have had. And we have never looked back and regretted that we did not "seize the day" when we had the chance. Because it is stupid to look back and regret about these kind of things. "Could've, would've, should've" are always going to be around us. But they are in the past. Why carry it to the present?
Trust me! YOU did what YOU were supposed to do and that is it. YOU have probably enjoyed it to the most. So, be happy, be thankful! Don't look back and stop worrying about "Carpe Diem" because YOU did seize the day, and YOU are doing it right now as well. Take it easy and don't forget that human beings are greedy creatures. There is never an end to it.
Dear Seden & Rüya... after writing all this, it made me think. I know YOU are making the most of IT too. I love and miss YOU!

☜☝☞☟ Ignorants... they are everywhere! ☟☜☝☞

Wow! It looks like the "astrology post" got more attention than I had expected and I thank all of you for the comments you left. I am still waiting for one more person to comment and then I will manifest my thoughts. Just hold on tight... it is going to be interesting.
So, I have to tell YOU how beautiful yesterday was... here in Providence. Guess what happened!? It snowed magnificently and there I was, wondering around on East Providence and in downtown...taking pictures.

Benefit Street - Providence, Rhode Island

This is my camera's snow mode. So it's not sepia :D

Providence Baptist Church                                              Providence Baptist Church

 Waterplace Park
This is where the Providence Waterfire takes place
during summertime, when the river is NOT frozen ;D

No need to explain what this is, right? The cutest icicle ever :)
And there I was... walking by myself in the city that welcomed me 2 years and 8 months ago. Almost 3 years! During my stay here, I have heard so many negative comments from so many different people, including the natives and the foreigners.
- It is so boring here!
- There is nothing to do!
- It is so small!

Those people probably did not ask for my comments but I feel like I owe them this one.
How can YOU not like the city that I like so much that I write a BLOG about it?
Ohhh wait a second! Maybe this is why....
* You have probably never seen a show in PPAC - and YOU probably don't know what PPAC stands for either... Providence Performing Arts Center - where almost all the broadway shows play, where celebrities like Wanda Sykes and David Gray perform in a beautiful theater (way better than the ones they have in Broadway)
* Since YOU have never been to PPAC,  I don't think YOU have experienced the magic of the Trinity Rep. either. Well never mind!
* Have YOU ever been to Wayland Square and taken a walk? Tried out the wine&cheese bars, like Farmstead?
No! Why would YOU?
* Been to the Avon Cinema or the Cable Car Cinema?
* Have YOU ever realized how close Providence is to Boston, N.Y.C., Portland, Newport, Fall Rivers, etc...?
* Did YOU even hear about the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra?
.
.
.

What DID you do?
So if YOU've only lived the nightlife at least 3 nights a week and spent the rest of the week dealing with hangover and school, you have all the rights to complain about the city YOU live in. I salute you my friend... I salute YOU...

Do you believe in ☼★☽☾★☼?

Apparently people read my blog. Thank you so much. YOU have no idea how much I appreciate it. However, I need YOU to comment on some stuff, especially on the ones that I force you to do so.
No pressure, though. Keep it cool :D
During these past few days, I set my mind on finding out the level of your faith in stars, other planets, the sun and the moon. In other words, 'astrology'.

"Literally every planet of our solar system will be moving in direct motion from January 1 to 25. This is an almost impossible situation to find in any given year, as there are always one or two planets going out of phase. They have their own orbits, and as said, big outer planets like Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto retrograde for more than four months at a time. Mercury retrogrades every 12 weeks for three-and-a-half weeks, as a few examples. This is why it is so hard to get all these little guys marching forward at any one time. We have that now in January!
Why is this important? When a planet is moving at direct speed it can support you fully. A retrograde planet is weak and it withholds its best powers, but when you initiate a new venture or relationship, you are giving "birth" to that endeavor, and you want each planet to pull weight and be the best it can be! From January 1 to 25, you have all the little planets working hard for you, dear Libra, and giving you all that they have to give! Wow!"
Your love life should be very bright from January 15 to February 22, and lucky you, that period includes Valentine's Day in many countries including the US. Many couples look forward to a very romantic evening, but you'll have much more than that - weeks of fun! You deserve it!"

Says the world famous astrologist, Susan Miller on her website

So please answer me this. (Sorry in advance if this seems like a GMAT or a TOEFL writing exercise type of question)

Do you believe in astrology? - Defend your arguments. After all of your comments I'll expose my thoughts on the subject.

Feeling Poetic *

Tonight I felt like writing a poem, which YOU can almost never see me do. I hope you like it. It doesn't have a title though. So here's your assignment for this post. Find a TITLE for my poem :D

Was it a spell or your eyes
Was it the moon or my cries
Does it matter how I feel
When a soul here, dies

Was it on purpose or a mistake
All I tried was to stay awake
Your love pushed me into this
Shook me to my cores, like an earthquake

Desiring YOU makes me vulnerable
Don't think it's anything fixable
YOU started the fire, you are the reason
Or maybe I am just way too gullible

"Jar of ♥♡♥♡"

I know I can't take one more step towards YOU. ‘Cause all that's waiting is regret. Don't YOU know I'm not your ghost anymore... YOU lost the love I loved the most. I learned to live, half alive. And now YOU want me one more time... And who do you think YOU are? Runnin' 'round leaving scars, collecting your jar of hearts and tearing love apart. You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul. So don't come back for me. Who do you think you are?!
I hear you're asking all around if I am anywhere to be found. But I have grown too strong to ever fall back in your arms. It did took so long just to feel alright. Remember how to put back the light in my eyes. I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed 'cause you broke all your promises and now you're back. You don't get to get me back...

Keep reading after you watch this video.

Stop scrolling down without watching it!

Ok, ok. I trust YOU.

Did you like it? I listened to this song for the first time a few days ago. To be exact it was Tuesday night... I was driving home from school and when I heard the beginning of this song, I wanted to pull over and listen to it till the end. But of course I am still not THAT crazy to pull over on a highway (I-95 North) to listen to a song that I had never heard of. Eventually I drove home, however pissed at myself for not being able to catch neither the song's nor the singer's name. Then, on Wednesday morning, while I was driving to school (I-95 South) and they played it again but FUDGE!!! I couldn't get a name...! So I decided "to google" the lyrics. Why not, right? However all the hassle at school made me totally forget about the song. Until TODAY! Thanks to Ryan Seacrest :D
"You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul"
"Runnin' 'round leaving scars, collecting your jar of hearts and tearing love apart"
Wow... those words really impressed me. I guess they could've played a very good role in some moments of my life  when all I could say was "I'm...I'm... speechless!..." But guess what!?! Someday, if anyone one of YOU is "lucky" enough to hear these words from me, at least you know where I got them from :D
Let's all learn the difference between egoism and self-esteem and be kind to one another.

* It gets easier each time *

About five minutes ago, I happened to start feeling a bit lost. Probably that was a sign for me to go to bed already! But just like always I asked for some answers (because I know I can't get all the answers at once).. an answer that would put me into the sleeping phase... an answer that would stop my subconscious from being so active at this time of the day.
I have to mention that I am not a religious person at all... Well I am religious as much as Santa Claus is a big fat man :D Below is what I have found... Good night everyone.

An INTERVIEW with GOD

I dreamed I had an interview with God.
"Come in," God said to me, "So, you would like to interview Me?"
"If you have the time," I said.

God smiled and said:  "My time is called eternity and is enough to
do everything; what questions do you have in mind to ask me?"
"None that are new to you. What's the one thing that surprises
you most about mankind?"

God answered:  "That they get bored of being children, are in a
rush to grow up, and then long to be children again.  That they lose their
health to make money and then lose their money to restore their health.
That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such
that they live neither for the present nor the future.
That they live as if they will never die,
and they die as if they had never lived..."

God's hands took mine and we were silent.
After a long period, I said,  "May I ask you another question?"
"As a Parent, what would you ask your children to do?"

        God replied with a smile:
"To learn that they cannot make anyone love them.
What they can do is to let themselves be loved.
To learn that it takes years to build trust, and a few seconds to
destroy it.
To learn that what is most valuable is not what they have in their
lives, but who they have in their lives.
To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others.
There will be others better or worse than they are.
To learn that a rich person is not one who has the most, but is
one who needs the least.
To learn that they should control their attitudes, otherwise their
attitudes will control them.
To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound
wounds in persons we love, and that it takes many years to heal them.
To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness.
To learn that there are persons that love them dearly, but simply
do not know how to show their feelings.
To learn that money can buy everything but happiness.
To learn that while at times they may be entitled to be upset, that
does not give them the right to upset those around them.
To learn that great dreams do not require great wings, but a
landing gear to achieve.
To learn that true friends are scarce, he/she who has found one
has found a true treasure.
To learn that it is not always enough that they be forgiven by
others, but that they forgive themselves.
To learn that they are masters of what they keep to themselves
and slaves of what they say.
To learn that they shall reap what they plant; if they plant gossip
they will harvest intrigues, if they plant love they will harvest
happiness.
To learn that true happiness is not to achieve their goals but to
learn to be satisfied with what they already achieved.
To learn that happiness is a decision.   They decide to be happy
with what they are and have, or die from envy and jealousy of what
they lack.
To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see
something totally different.
To learn that those who are honest with themselves without
considering the consequences go far in life.
To learn that even though they may think they have nothing to
give, when a friend cries with them, they find the strength to appease
the pain.
To learn that by trying to hold on to loved ones, they very quickly
push them away; and by letting go of those they love, they will be side
by side forever.
To learn that even though the word "love" has many different
meanings, it loses its value when it is overstated.

Words being words - reflections being reflections

Ooh yes The Golden Globe Awards... Wasn't it hilarious? Some of you may have found it incredibly offensive, funny or incredibly irritating. Well, I like it. A lot! If the host weren't Ricky Gervais, I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did.
What is so unique about this guy?
His sarcastic manner ;)
Some people get hurt by his ironic/sarcastic comments because presumably they know he is shoving the reality into their faces, in front of all the quests and millions of viewers on T.V.
Obviously he chooses not to keep quiet. However it makes me think, is it  maybe because he is British?
Think of straightness of Elton John and George Michael.. lol! This is kind of ironic itself, isn't it?
Let me put it this way. Think of the....well... bluntness in their speeches.
What about Simon Cowell, the world famous music producer, talent-spotter and the ex-judge on American Idol.
And, what is going on with CNN's Larry King's replacement Piers Morgan? He premiered on CNN the beginning of this week and even before that, say 2 weeks ago, he had a list of celebrities who he "banned" from the show. Unfortunately Madonna comes first on that list. Morgan said, "She is too vegan for T.V., we have Lady Gaga now." Whatever that means!?!?!
Rumor has it, his grudge against Madonna goes back to his early years of journalism, when no one ever knew who Piers Morgan was and at that time Madonna was busy with changing the world's perception of pop culture/music.
Back to Ricky Gervais. A fearless british actor, comedian, hosting the Golden Globes for the second year in a row. He made us realize that he is a master of words and knows his audience.
And as I was expecting, a profound start and an end followed instantly.

Here's how it all began;

And he chose the following sentence to end the show.

"Thank God for making me an atheist"

Accidently On Purpose

"We are reminded every spring, with every rose that blooms, with every sunflower that blossoms, with every lily that buds, the world is a beautiful place. Sadly, it is filled with people who do ugly things, constantly!
The world is filled with people who do ugly things. Why do they act this way?
Some lie to keep from losing what they love,
some lash out because they fear the future,
some put up walls because they have regrets. Yes, everyone has a reason for the ugly things they do. And once we find out why, then we can try to stop them."
said Mary Alice on Desperate Housewives' latest episode on Sunday. (but I just watched it :D)
And it made me think as usual - no surprise there, right?
God knows how many happy moments we have on one day and come to think of it, there are usually equal amount of sad moments that wipe out those good ones...
Should we keep others responsible or is it just YOU again?
Lies, conspiracies, traps, frauds, manipulations... All for doing good deeds.
YOU still don't get it, do YOU?

Your imperfections make YOU perfect *

For the last few years the disturbing race of "ego" and "perfection" between human kinds has become very intense for some reason, don't you think? People are trying harder and harder than ever to be "perfect." Whatever that means!?
So the story goes and I get to figure out that most, have a very low self-esteem.
YOU should be aware that your imperfections make YOU perfect.

Never say never

Year: 2005
Place: Bilkent University, Ankara -TURKEY
Time of Death: Tuesdays and Thursdays
Reasons of Death: 1. Social and Political Philosophy Class
      2. William Wringe Ph.D

And here I learn once again that I should NEVER say NEVER!
Back in college, I just didn't hate philosophy, I .......!!!!
There must have been a better adjective that would describe my feelings towards philosophy but none of the dictionaries I had looked at had what I was looking for. But before it was too late, I have become passionate about philosophy, (quick footnote here, I don't know the answers to
why?
when?
how?
questions, so don't even bother asking.)
and now I want to read all those books once again.

- Rousseau's The Social Contract
- Hobbes' Leviathan
- Cicero's Republic
- John Stuart Mill's On liberty (I remember that this book was my favorite.)
- Plato's Apology
- and at least 3 more books from 2 other different philosophers.

Below is a passage written by Gareth Southwell, from his book "Words of Wisdom".

"Man was born free, and everywhere he is in chains"
                                                  Jean-Jacques Rousseau 1712-1778

History may be viewed as progress or decline (well, also as cyclical, unchanging or chaotic, I suppose, but admitting that robs me of a neat opening). Religions and myths picture a Golden Age of innocence, peace, and goodness from which we have fallen; science favours progress, a long hard slog out of primitive slime towards the distant lights of reason and civilization. Rousseau was in the former camp: originally a peaceful, self-reliant and relatively solitary individual, a 'noble savage' who endured hardship for the sake of freedom, man has been morally corrupted by civilization, which forces us to live in uncomfortable proximity to our neighbours, jealously guarding the comfort and possessions that we have exchanged for true liberty. Consider, he said, the caged animal that will rather crack its head against the bars trying to escape than remain in incarcerated ease: this is the instinct that man subdues, to the detriment of his true nature.

Typing at my laptop, sipping tea, and occasionally wondering whether I can justify an Apple iPad as a work-related expense, I consider Rousseau's point: it's true, I have never caught or grown my own food, mended a roof, or fought off an intruder. However, though technological progress distances us from life's sobering realities, and smothers us with over-indulgent comforts (who really needs a six-blade battery-powered wet razor?), where would we be without penicillin, or the telephone, or the countless benefits that come with the increase in knowledge that civilization fosters?

Technology is a double-edged sword, but whatever our problems, to hark back to a rose-tinted heyday seems ill-conceived: as Pandora discovered, once you let things out of the box, it's difficult to get them back in. Rather than turning our back on modern civilization altogether, wouldn't we be better employed turning its acquired knowledge to our advantage? 'Progress' may seem overwhelming at times, but it's surely now a problem solved by born-again ignorance.

What do YOU think?
Define ignorance.
How ignorant can YOU be sometimes?

東京 - Tokyo

No, I am not in Tokyo right now and no, I haven't been there. YET.
But on 1/1/11, I met this person, who "accidentally" invited me to Tokyo! Gosh, I hope he doesn't regret what he did because he barely knows me, and vice versa ;) This young gentleman's name is Alper Uçar. ATurkish National Figure Skater.
Alper and I are the same age, and have met trough a very dear friend of ours, Burak P.
Before I met Alper, I had been hearing a lot about his journeys, accomplishments and the extreme training program. (just so you know-lighter than P90X ;) This month he will be competing in Erzurum, TURKEY and in Tokyo, JAPAN.
Erzurum? Hold on a second... Most of you may not know about this city of ours. Here's what Christopher Solomon, a New York Times journalist had to say about Erzurum, in the article "41 Places To Go in 2011"
"Skiing in Turkey? A winter sports capital emerges in Anatolia.
Turkey may not be the first place people think of for skiing, but it’s got mountains — big, snowy ones. Now the government is making a push to turn Erzurum, a city of 785,000 in eastern Anatolia, into a winter sports capital in time for this month’s 2011 Winter Universiade (sort of an Olympics for university students). Two and a half miles from town lies the ski resort of Palandoken, which the Iranian skiers who come here know has the most challenging skiing in Turkey. Three lifts have been added to the bald mountain that rises nearly 3,000 feet from its base to its summit at 10,498. The number of runs is a modest 18 — but the fun skiing is off-piste, between the runs, on Palandoken’s 2,200 acres.
About 11 miles from Erzurum sits the new Konakli Ski Resort, which opened this winter with six chairlifts and 3,000 acres of skiing. A new five-star hotel is scheduled to open next season; until it does, rent a car for day trips and stay at Palandoken’s Renaissance Polat Erzurum Hotel."
We thank Mr. Solomon for his recommendation for the New York Times ski-lover readers and go back to where we had left off...
Joking aside, I am in no condition for going to Tokyo, however I want to thank Alper for the kind invite anyway and mention that it was a privilege meeting him.
So here's another reason to be thankful for! - This time YOU will decide
if it's my friend Burak,
the Universe, or
2011?

I choose to thank YOU.

Alper, I wish you the best of luck in this busy month of January. By the way, since you haven't invited me to Italy - I consider it as a private invitation - I'll see you in Italy.

Sorry but I don't do mornings

Mom: Good morning, sweety! It's time to wake up. Come on now, get up, wash your face, brush your teeth and come n get breakfast.
Aras: Aiiiite Mom...

5 mins later...

Dad: Is my little Aras having a hard time getting up? Come on sweety, you are gonna be late for school.
Aras: Ok Dad. I'll be in the kitchen in 5 mins...

20 mins later...

Mom & Dad: ARE YOU KIDDING US ???

It was the same moment/situation until I started the elementary school, high school, and college ... Well, in college it probably didn't matter anymore because it was "my responsibility."
Now I am 25 and I CAN wake up whenever I want (thanks to annoying cell phone alarms)...
I have stopped going back to sleep the second after I open my eyes in the morning....

I guess somethings do change over time.
But there is still one thing that hasn't changed yet... and I don't think it will ever!

My morning bitterness ... Don't get me wrong, I love my morning bitterness - I would never complain about it.
But why would YOU ask me stupid questions when I am barely awake...

Why are you in a bad mood?
What's wrong?
Are you going to be like this the whole day?

SHUT UP!  I JUST WOKE UP :D

Who is running your life?

By a.R.a.S - Life Is Good store - Atlantic City, NJ
The suffocating feeling of "I am living my life in order to satisfy someone else's"  has always been inexpressibly annoying. Every time it seemed that way, I found a way to change it. However this time something just hit me! Even though I work my butt off not to feel enslaved, cultures and people around me are never going to change; therefore, me, expecting them to be more "modern" (whatever that means) and comprehend things sound incredibly unreal.
So, what now? Am I going to surrender? And since I have started considering the "surrendering option", I could also give up my dreams, right?
Hell no! I still believe there is way to make people understand YOU, accept YOU as YOU are, love YOU as who YOU are, not depending on the choices you have made and will make.
I am not saying that the process is going to be easy, it will take time and maybe a little more of my hair too ;D
While all this is happening, I am so grateful that I can still appreciate being alive and see how good life is (No matter happens)

By a.R.a.S - Life Is Good store - Atlantic City, NJ
If YOU are reading this - I am not blaming YOU ... I know that YOU are only concerned about me. It is relieving to know that YOU are still out there, looking out for me.

An intense start to the New Year

On my way to N.Y.C. 1/4/2011 @ 7:14 AM

Remember when I said that I had spent most of my time at home in 2010 and that I didn't want it to be the same way in 2011? Well... my first New Year resolution came true... yay!

1/1/2011 on the road for more than 5 hours
2/1/2011 on the road for more than 2 hours (but less than 3)
3/1/2011 had to go to Boston early in the morning and come back to Providence in the afternoon
4/1/2011 had to go to N.Y.C. early in the morning (woke up at 4:45 AM) and come back in the afternoon.

I took the picture above while I was driving on Tuesday morning. It was funny because what I saw from the rear-view mirror was the absolute dark sky, (maybe a very dark night blue) but on the left hand side a stunning sunrise that could make forget everything while it lasts...
And it made me feel alive. Actually "happy to be alive."
The Universe has its random and routine "surprises", it has its own balance and instabilities ...

How do YOU feel when someone acknowledges and congratulates YOU for something YOU have done?
How do YOU feel when someone tells YOU
"I love YOU" ?
or
"Thank YOU" ?

My answer to both is - I feel so good that it makes me want to GIVE BACK.
Maybe the Universe will too...

A reflection on 2010

If I take a look at last year, I feel like I've barely accomplished a lot. It doesn't give me the impression that it was the most productive year of my life... Come to think of it again, no, it definitely wasn't very productive.
Maybe it's because I didn't have lots of goals/wishes for 2010. All I wanted was health & peace, which I thank God for.

In 2010, I stayed at home most of the time. Almost every two months I hosted some friends and we had fun. During the rest of the time I travelled.

What else did I do in 2010?...
Played lot's of PS3..
Read lot's of books..
Facebooked and tweeted a lot..
Studied and got good grades..
Taught spanish..
Shopped a bit..
Watched vast amount of movies..
Cooked a lot..
